I am an East Coast expatriate hiding out in the Midwest...

I am an urban gal living in the suburbs and occasionally hiding in the country

I am a yoga practitioner, fitness enthusiast, believer in the mind-body-spirit connection...

I am a mid-life "revert" to the Roman Catholic faith in which I was raised and which has become an enormous source of support, encouragement, inspiration, and joy in my life...

I am a mom, sister, daughter, and wife...

I am an explorer; adventurous and curious about the world and people around me...

I am educated in the formal sense but I gain insight through everyday living...

I created this blog at a time of great fear and apprehension in my life. I chose to sustain it because of the discoveries about myself and the world around me that it has revealed.

What you can expect to find here:
  • the documentation of a love-hate relationship with the greater Philadelphia area
  • reminiscing about the good-ole-days (the 80's!)
  • complaints about my various ailments and injuries, both real and imagined
  • pictures and stories of gardening, decorating, shopping, sewing
  • my love of irony
  • links to kooky news stories
  • way too much scatological musing for sane people

    More Fun on Passyunk Avenue

Over the weekend, I received a cd of holiday pics from my sister courtesy of my parents-as-couriers. They flew into town for an additional birthday celebration for my daughter - a trip for all of us to partake of the "dinner and tournament" that is Medieval Times. Yes, there were dashing "knights", too many ways to spend money, and plenty of chicken to be eaten with your hands. Don't get me wrong - it was an enjoyable evening but I'm not up for expounding on castle-born fantasies at the moment.

I left off my last Philly-oriented entry at Marra's restaurant where my little one enjoyed not only the delicious tartufo for dessert, but wolfed down what we told her was "chicken" but was actually expertly prepared fried calamari. She asked repeatedly through the evening, "Can I have more calamari chicken, please?"

Back streetside on Passyunk, that delightful diagonal that offers relief from the bustle of the city grid, we took some funny photos - and yet have none of the landmark "King of Jeans" sign. I now feel challenged to get one. Naturally somewhere in my photo archive I have a pic outside garish tourist trap Geno's Steaks, but until I dig that up, I offer the following:

We snapped a background of "A Man's Image" but for some reason, middle sister is pointing at yet another landmark...

...none other than a bridal shop with a Mummer groom in the window display; NOWHERE else but Philly would you see something like this! Unfortunately, middle sister is hiding behind me but we had fun dramatising our amazement of this display.

(For more photos/film clips/explanation of the Mummery tradition in Philly, check out the site for Strut! the movie.)
