I am an East Coast expatriate hiding out in the Midwest...

I am an urban gal living in the suburbs and occasionally hiding in the country

I am a yoga practitioner, fitness enthusiast, believer in the mind-body-spirit connection...

I am a mid-life "revert" to the Roman Catholic faith in which I was raised and which has become an enormous source of support, encouragement, inspiration, and joy in my life...

I am a mom, sister, daughter, and wife...

I am an explorer; adventurous and curious about the world and people around me...

I am educated in the formal sense but I gain insight through everyday living...

I created this blog at a time of great fear and apprehension in my life. I chose to sustain it because of the discoveries about myself and the world around me that it has revealed.

What you can expect to find here:
  • the documentation of a love-hate relationship with the greater Philadelphia area
  • reminiscing about the good-ole-days (the 80's!)
  • complaints about my various ailments and injuries, both real and imagined
  • pictures and stories of gardening, decorating, shopping, sewing
  • my love of irony
  • links to kooky news stories
  • way too much scatological musing for sane people

    International Women's Support Garment Day

Today is International Women's Day (but hey, with me EVERY day is MY day!).

While flipping through stations on TV, I came upon a certain on-air shopping channel that was hawking SPANX support garments (modern-day girdles with lycra in place of old-time bones/stays.)

The saleswoman/announcer had the brilliant idea to state on-air:

"Thanks for joining us this morning. We're celebrating International Women's Day with SPANKX support garments!"

    WTF?!?!

Yeah, nuthin' says "liberation" like high-weave lycra bearing down on your delicate female parts! (Most gynecologists agree our vag's need breathable fabrics (like cotton, etc.) for good health. )

Spanx is right up there with the dreaded 'minimiser bra'. Sweet mother of Mary. Not a fun thing to wear.

No matter what bra I wear, if I want to run, I have to hold my boobs in place with my hands! Sure, it looks like I'm feeling myself up, but it stops the pain!! ;)

    Oh, Abby, you slay me!

SPANX sound like Grandma underwear to me. No THANX!

Bras? What do they say? Mine don't speak. They've got a pretty easy job.

ah, Brandy the Typo Queen strikes again. OK, I looked it up and its SPANX.

To which I say, "No thanks".

Its funny - I used to be addicted to girdles, bodyshapers, etc. but now I just do the basic unpadded bra and cotton panty thing (with the occasional thong for, er, special occasions ;)

uh, SPANX or SPANKX? Me likey SPANKX.

As for bras, without them, I'd get a black eye when I ran.

bras are another matter; some support is needed for good breast health (as well as for the back) , especially if a gal has larger bazongas. ;)

And what's the deal with bras? Do some of them actually do what they say they do? Or are they merely in the way?
