    Return

My daughter and had to run an early-morning errand. Upon our return home we were thrilled to find a female hairy woodpecker at our suet feeder. The woodpeckers, which had been such frequent visitors, seemed to disappear over the summer. I suppose they have returned back form their "summer home" to overwinter agian in our backyard.

You say 'hairy woodpecker' like it is a good thing. I would try and chase it the heck out of my garden!

I've only ever seen one woodpecker in my life...many, many moons ago.

ACK! You've reminded me again that I need to get some decent bird feeders up for winter!

We used to have a neighborhood woodpecker that would peck away consistently at a metal streetlight. I don't think he was right in the head, but he was pretty and it made a pretty cool noise!

When I was growing up we had a family of robins and one of cardinals that would spend the winter and spring in our backyard. Their cycles were comforting, now that I think about it.

That is such a treat! Enjoy. Woodpeckers used to wake us in in the fall when we lived in Jackson. I so very much enjoyed waking up that way. Now that we're deep inside a 4.5 million resident metro area, they don't come 'round any more. I miss them.

OMG you are scaring me. *shakes head*

Seriously woodpeckers are cool but thrilled? Man I gotta get you out some. LOL.
