I am an East Coast expatriate hiding out in the Midwest...

I am an urban gal living in the suburbs and occasionally hiding in the country

I am a yoga practitioner, fitness enthusiast, believer in the mind-body-spirit connection...

I am a mid-life "revert" to the Roman Catholic faith in which I was raised and which has become an enormous source of support, encouragement, inspiration, and joy in my life...

I am a mom, sister, daughter, and wife...

I am an explorer; adventurous and curious about the world and people around me...

I am educated in the formal sense but I gain insight through everyday living...

I created this blog at a time of great fear and apprehension in my life. I chose to sustain it because of the discoveries about myself and the world around me that it has revealed.

What you can expect to find here:
  • the documentation of a love-hate relationship with the greater Philadelphia area
  • reminiscing about the good-ole-days (the 80's!)
  • complaints about my various ailments and injuries, both real and imagined
  • pictures and stories of gardening, decorating, shopping, sewing
  • my love of irony
  • links to kooky news stories
  • way too much scatological musing for sane people

    Humming along

The construction project is humming along on more or less on schedule. Our framing inspection passed (WHOO!) as well as plumbing and HVAC. Electrical inspection is tomorrow and I am pretty confident about that. Then the insulation goes in Thursday/Friday; gets inspected and THEN we get into the GOOD stuff: finishing work.

First, drywall, then that gets inspected, and then all the goodies: flooring, interior doors, vent covers, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, shelving, gutters, siding...

It seems like a lot. But I am pretty confident that it will move forward at a decent pace. That said, I still have to choose paint colors, floor and shower/wall tile for the bathroom, ceramic tile for the entry, paneling for the stairway, shelving layout and type for the pantry and MBR closet, ceiling fan for the MBR, light fixture for exterior door...in other words, I have much more shopping to do.

Thanks for visiting, Jen. The avatar is from the sign of The Redhead Piano bar in Chicago; I used to wear my otherwise bobbed hair in a flip in my 20s and people told me I looked like *her*. I have been to the bar a few times; its sort of touristy, though.

Michelle - I am LOST in terms of color. First thought of a mid-blue called Serenata by Benjamin Moore - its one of the Pottery Barn colors. But now I am leaning toward something like a taupe/tan/stone - neutral but still a color. I am still not sure...

I saw your avatar at Bad Mom's and had to laugh. I love it.

Remodels are quite the experience. I took an 1100 square foot house to 2600 and lived to tell about it!
