I am an East Coast expatriate hiding out in the Midwest...

I am an urban gal living in the suburbs and occasionally hiding in the country

I am a yoga practitioner, fitness enthusiast, believer in the mind-body-spirit connection...

I am a mid-life "revert" to the Roman Catholic faith in which I was raised and which has become an enormous source of support, encouragement, inspiration, and joy in my life...

I am a mom, sister, daughter, and wife...

I am an explorer; adventurous and curious about the world and people around me...

I am educated in the formal sense but I gain insight through everyday living...

I created this blog at a time of great fear and apprehension in my life. I chose to sustain it because of the discoveries about myself and the world around me that it has revealed.

What you can expect to find here:
  • the documentation of a love-hate relationship with the greater Philadelphia area
  • reminiscing about the good-ole-days (the 80's!)
  • complaints about my various ailments and injuries, both real and imagined
  • pictures and stories of gardening, decorating, shopping, sewing
  • my love of irony
  • links to kooky news stories
  • way too much scatological musing for sane people

    Metabolic Jealousy

I have a friend in Cyberland who is a former co-worker of mine. Apparently he loves to cook and  bake and thus he often posts his daily menus and recipes. It seems they are having delightful carb-heavy rich meals, paired with fabulous wines, followed by home-baked, butter-laden goodies almost every night! So, my guess was that, once a picture of them was posted, was that I would see photographic evidence of their daily indulgence. Perhaps I was even HOPING for this.

No such luck - they are both average/normal sized. You would almost never guess they are extreme foodies.

    Dammit!

I cook a great deal, too and despite my occasional forays into cookie baking, I worry over how often per week I can have a dessert item that is not a small carton of *lite* yogurt or a small apple.

My internist told me a few weeks ago: your metabolism sucks.

    Yeah, no sh*it!

However, it is not quite stanky enough to warrant thyroid supplements so I will continue to yearn for creamy risottos, gourmet donuts, and fried goat cheese (paired with a fab red, natch) while I read his status updates.

Yeah, well do you think I show pictures of my gut not sucked in on my FB page? No, I don't. Nor do you get to see my chins. You only get to see the goat cheese.

Yes, those were, in fact, the exact words of the good doctor, which sort of shocked me, as he is a rather mild-mannered fellow.

"sucks" - that a medical term?

It's just not Fair! I had a french roommate for a while in college. The french eat lots of very rich foods, yet many stay out of the obese ranks. I think it's the wine... worth testing the theory anyway.
